As an Air Traffic Controller, you will be playing a crucial role as the guardian of the Australian sky. You will be part of a vital team that manages 11% of the world's airspace and is guided by world-class technology that will ensure the safe, reliable and efficient airspace use of all aircraft operating in our skies.

Air Traffic Controllers manage the safe and orderly flow of aircraft into, out of, and between airports throughout Australia and with overseas regions adjoining Australian airspace. This is a rewarding role that requires a high level of commitment and responsibility.

Air Traffic Controllers will work in one of our two major centres in Melbourne or Brisbane, or in one of our 28 control towers at international and regional airports across Australia.

As a Trainee Air Traffic Controller, you will receive comprehensive training from our Registered Training Organisation (RTO 5168) based in Melbourne. Training is delivered via a combination of classroom based and practical training. Upon successful completion of training, a nationally recognised qualification will be awarded in the form of an AVI50115 Diploma of Aviation (Air Traffic Control).

About you

To be become an Air Traffic Controller, you must be able to meet the requirements as specified below:

  • 18 years of age or above
  • Be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen, or an Australian Permanent Resident.
  • Have completed secondary education, including passes in English and Maths. (International qualifications will need to be assessed by an appropriate authority as equivalent, refer to the FAQs for additional information relating to the assessment).

Application Timeline

Please note that candidates who submit an eligible application will be invited to undertake a series of online tests. We anticipate a high volume of interest and therefore applications received by 8 November will be processed to testing on 9 November and applications received after this date, up until the closing date of 21 November, will progress to testing at a later stage. We will communicate with all applicants once applications have closed.

Candidates progressed to testing on 9 November, pending results may then be invited to undertake a video interview. Those candidates who successfully progress through these stages may also be invited to attend a virtual assessment centre, the week commencing 13 December 2021. Further details will be provided during your application.
