Is the candidate a recent law graduate seeking to launch a legal career at a top-tier law firm? Does the candidate possess an interest in banking law and aspire to develop their career in this area?

An exceptional opportunity exists for a law clerk to join the Tier-1 banking and finance team at Buddle Findlay. As a member of a collaborative and close-knit team, the candidate will receive comprehensive support for their professional growth and development, while gaining invaluable exposure to a diverse range of clients and transactions, including structured finance, leveraged finance, acquisition finance, mezzanine finance, project and construction finance, syndicated lending, securitization, and debt restructuring.

This unique position offers exposure to a variety of stimulating and challenging work across numerous sectors, including financial services, property development, energy, agriculture, oil and gas, wastewater, and telecommunications. Additionally, the candidate will benefit from mentorship provided by partners Paul Farrugia, Miriam Andrews, and Daniel Collins, renowned experts in the field, and have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues across the firm's wider financial services team.

The firm seeks to fill the position in October 2024, however, flexibility regarding the start date is available to accommodate individual circumstances.

About you

They value people who bring a different perspective, and who are passionate, curious, and innovative. To be successful in this role, the applicant would ideally be:

  • Completed a law degree or are about to complete your law degree in New Zealand
  • A genuine interest in either banking, finance, or commercial law
  • Have exceptional communication skills, and you bring confidence to your engagement with people
  • Have great attention to detail and can work to processes and deadlines, but also see ahead of the curve and proactively anticipate the next step for our clients
  • Have an ability to foster and develop client relationships
  • Have excellent digital skills, prioritisation organisation skill
