Position overview 

East Gippsland Shire Council is currently seeking a current, newly qualified, or soon-to-be qualified town planner to join the Statutory Planning team as a Graduate Statutory Planner. This is a full-time, permanent position, based in Bairnsdale. 

The successful applicant will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to implement and coordinate the planning of the Shire by Council’s Planning Scheme and relevant legislation. Work alongside our friendly and enthusiastic team to gain experience as a town planner and work in the local council. You will be based in a stunning region to live and play in - beaches, lakes, and mountains right at your fingertips!

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Relevant qualifications and experience.
  • Knowledge of current planning policies and legislation.
  • Good interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with staff, public, consultants, and statutory authorities.
  • Good knowledge of and the ability to interpret, the various applicable Acts and Regulations relating to Council Planning matters.
  • Ability to investigate, prepare and complete reports on a wide range of planning matters, and make recommendations to management and Council.
  • Ability to produce reports and correspondence which is timely, accurate, and to a suitable professional standard.  Ability to work with and guide others in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Commitment to high-quality customer service and experience.
  • Relevant information technology knowledge and experience.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and participate in a team environment.
  • A current, valid Victorian driver’s license.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake a current Police Check and be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Applicants for this position must also be legally entitled to work in Australia.
