Pros & Cons

  • The best thing about working for the RAA is how the needs of South Australians form the basis of every decision we take. I truly love giving back to the community and seeing how proud other employees are to work here.
  • Flexibility, great culture, awesome work environment
  • The people and modern business focuses e.g. user experience, agile
  • Flexible work arrangements, being able to work from home or start and finish later on days where there are other things going on a major stress relief
  • Great work culture - flexible, team focused, forward thinking.
  • Things take while to be approved given the size of the organisation
  • Lower pay compared to bigger tech companies
  • Long term plans are not as clear to most staff and seeing the bigger picture on projects or work can be difficult
  • Issues with not enough office, meeting and parking spaces

Culture
It's truly a dream to have such flexible hours as I prefer starting and finishing earlier than the traditional 9-5. While there is an organisational structure, I feel comfortable reaching out to my co workers as everyone is very friendly. Cooperation is very important to RAA so there are regular team meetings that keep everyone up to date with everyone's work! Outside of office hours, my team is very social and eats out or attends the fringe together. There is an RAA social club for all workers.

We take this seriously at our organisation. We have a diversity and inclusion team. Our parental leave policy is very inclusive and recruitment takes it very seriously when recruiting.

I focus on specific data quality issues from our travel data that affects the quality of our reporting. I use SQL to sort data, Knime to clean data, and Tableau to visualise my results. I regularly check up with my supervisor to make sure I am heading in the right direction and to seek feedback. From there, I write up a report and make recommendations and then I present my work to stakeholders. This process allows me to have a thorough understanding of the problem and inform my co workers, who will then use my recommendations to influence the direction of RAA travel.

Weekly catch-ups with my direct manager who's easy to talk to about any issues related to work or anything else going on. Monthly catch-up with my senior manager and was set up with a senior manager from a different department as a mentor which has been a great resource starting my career for any guidance.

I have a nice office set up. The company has an onsite cafe which is great and is all very modern and clean. The dress code is dress for your day. Sometimes it is more smart business and other days more business casual.

Application with cover letter, phone interview, psychometric testing and 2 video interviews. It was quite a quick process and they did a terrific job at being flexible and letting you know about what the next steps of the application process are.

As a graduate I think my salary is pretty generous. We have a decent budget too so spending for online courses or conferences and those extra development opportunities are encouraged. Not aware of any bonuses.

We have a campus to corporate program to help us transition from study to work. Alongside this we get to work in different areas of the business on rotations to informally familiarise ourselves with other areas. We also have formal training and attend conferences, events and meetings regularly. I'm currently undertaking a course on design thinking and have future courses in resilience and wellbeing, communication skills, team work, presentation skills, management, and leadership just to name a few.

I have the flexibility to work from home or go into the office which I love. On days where I think I need peace and quiet, working from home is my go to - on other days where I'd like interaction or workshops with my colleagues, I go in! It's great!
