On a normal day, I’ll use this time until the end of the day to really make sure I accomplish multiple tasks. I fire off emails, set up meetings and clear my to-do list. My role at the Ministry is a balance foreign policy and development activities.

What I do impacts, not just the ministry, but New Zealanders and countries in the Pacific, as well as their people. It’s overwhelming being asked to coordinate meetings between New Zealand and major allies or ensuring that we fund programmes to the tune of millions in order to contribute to the safety and security of others in the Pacific.

Something cool about this role is that there is always something new happening or to learn about, so no day has ever felt the same since I have started, and as long as you are completing the jobs that are assigned to you, you can use the extra time to build on yourself.

Failure isn’t failure if you learn something from it – then it becomes a stepping stone. People don't like to talk about bad times so it's hard to know, but more ‘successful people’ than you may realise bombed at something else before they started succeeding.
