Pros & Cons

  • The opportunity to work as a real full-time employee from day one, partaking in work that actually adds value to both the business and to clients.
  • The support they give graduates - e.g. program managers, grad alumni buddies, business unit sponsors, supportive line managers, setting up networking opportunities, organising development days.
  • The variety of work that is undertaken, exposure to different industries, networking opportunities just to name a few
  • The opportunities available to graduates, and the overall culture and values of ANZ. The graduate team are really supportive and have made the transition from university to corporate life a lot easier to navigate.
  • Inclusive, helpful team environments
  • The positive culture and their dedication to your learning.
  • Sometimes, due to resourcing constraints, you will rotate through an area you may not have an interest in, and your opinion on this may not be sought out.
  • Steep learning curves and sometimes long hours
  • So far I have had limited interaction and exposure to customers due to covid19
  • Progress sometimes feels a bit slow as it's a big company
  • Old systems can leave new workers bogged down by having to learn obsolete programs that are time-consuming and unhelpful.

The opportunities at ANZ are fantastic! Networking helps to find promotion opportunities and mentors that will support you when roles become available.

Corporate Social Responsibility
ANZ has great transparency and clear action plans when it comes to CSR/ESG. Personally, I have been able to work on sustainability projects centred around hydrogen, and have joined a committee/network that helps organise events that champion gender equality throughout the business.

Culture

Culture
I think ANZ probably has the best culture from what I've heard of the big 4 banks. Everyone is really friendly/welcoming and happy to have a coffee catch-up with you as a graduate to help with your learning and development. After hours I think it varies depending on your team but I've had a really positive experience where there is a real sense of community.

Diversity
As a member of the LGBT community, ANZ has its Pride Community that runs a lot of events and creates awareness for issues that we face. I joined ANZ because of its commitment to diversity, and am proud to work for ANZ for this reason.

My current rotation in SBB (Small Business Banking) has been an eye-opener for me in terms of what bankers and customers deal with on a daily basis. The team included me in a lot of activities, and my line manager entrusted me to be a specialist at a branch which was a great learning experience.

Very satisfied with the managers, are incredibly supportive, and willing to foster young talent. Day-to-day interaction to ensure workload is manageable and you are being challenged.

Office Work Environment
All ANZ Corporate offices are fantastic, really spacious, luxurious, and make you feel like you work for a company that is very successful. The dress code is formal, however, they do have to dress for your day, so it depends on your role.

The assessments were fun and engaging and didn't intimidate me as much as some of the other organisations I have applied at. The video interviews were a great way to share who I am with ANZ, and the in-person assessment centre was engaging, thought-provoking yet supported by the interviewers.

Graduates get paid quite well compared to traditional accounting/finance/business firms. Bonus is relevant to the bank's performance that year, however, graduates do receive a bonus

Training

Training
The graduate program has provided formal training mainly focused on soft skills, there are also mandatory learning modules for the basics or optional online training modules on different areas of the bank. Other than that for the specific role training that is dependent on your line manager/team and asking questions yourself.

Very flexible, I am contracted to 40 hours per week, however, my line manager is flexible, and if I have appointments to attend, I can do so with ease.
